Watch: ‘The Grudge’ first trailer is here, and it’s scary af

Sony has released the first trailer for its Sam Raimi produced reboot of The Grudge franchise. The film is written and directed by Nicolas Pesce (The Eyes of My Mother), and is a kinda-sorta-reboot that brings the horror series based on the Japanese film Ju-On: The Grudge written and directed by Takashi Shimizu to the United States with a recognizable storyline.

This Grudge centers on the experience of a young detective and single mother (Andrea Riseborough) who unknowingly starts investigating a cursed house, learning about a terrible murder that happened there and how it seems to be leaving a trail of bodies in its wake. The detective ends up bringing the problem with her, as the Grudge invades her home and goes after her and her son.

Demián Bichir, John Cho, Betty Gilpin, Jacki Weaver, and Insidious‘ Lin Shaye also star in the movie.

The Grudge comes out on January 3, 2020.
